The Long Way to Moosehead
A route note for when the destination is good but the unnecessary detour is better.

Filed for the club archive
There is a particular kind of New England morning where the truck windows fog from the inside and everyone insists they are not cold. That is the correct time to point north.
The Moosehead run is not a race. It is a collection of good excuses: a gravel road that turns into a view, a fuel stop that somehow becomes lunch, and a trail junction where the map says one thing and the old guy at the counter says another.
Pack the layers, keep the group tight, and leave enough daylight for the long way home. The best part of the route is still the part nobody planned.
